Morton was my very first ship and still the ship I am "most proud of." She was a part of the last class of destroyers to be called an "all-gun." I served on her, 64-65 and made the Westpac Cruise that was involved in the "second" Gulf of Tonki Incident after Morton relieved the Turner Joy and Maddox in Subic Bay. The most precious memory that I have of the Morton was getting out of the Deck Force and going into the Signal Gang before our 64 Westpac Cruise. The two men that helped me accomplish that Were SM2 Gleason Eads and SM2 Hollis Mcbroom. To this day I have never forgotten them & their leadership and friendship. I went on to serve on two other destroyers and then my final ship was the USS New Jersey, BB-62, her motto was "Fire Power for Freedom." Morton was still my best duty and I will never forget her. Some of you may remember me as "Murph" Bill Hennessee gave me that nickname because he couldn't remember my name. I served onboard the Morton in 66,67,68. I was on the sonar crew. We were the guys with the red eyes and the best paper back libarary onboard. I'll make sure I'm at the reunion in 2001 in San Diego. I would enjoy running into some of my old shipmates and telling some lies. I mean sea stories. |

Wished I would have known sooner. How was the '99 reunion? How many from the '66-'68 crew attended? Has "Cap'n" McCann made it to a reunion? How many a e thinking about going in 2001? Terry, this is a great site! You're "all over" in "here"! Should have told me! A lot happened during those 2 years on board! A lot of memories and history! Lots of stories....... You may be aware, but FYI, I just ord red some Morton caps and shirts from www.soldiercity.com. They are custom and expensive, but similar to the caps we used to have. Not familiar with the company or their quality, but it's easy to order. After I left the Morton I went to a DOD contractin office, and then out. | Comments: Hey Terry, It's looking good! I really liked the areoplanes, and the artziphartzi line. Some more input: I kept getting a java error message from your tornado logo when it first loads up. The links are working great but there isn't any indication of where you're oing when you click them, which leads to multiple visits to the same download when exploring. I don't quite know why, but some of your art clips aren't downloading when the page is finished. Maybe that's on my end. I'm running Netscape. Your page is coming along great!
