An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
But an onion a day keeps everybody away!

Armies do not march without onions.
Navies do not sail without onions.
Rockets cannot be launched without onions.
Poems do not rhyme without onions.

Yes folks, it's true. I like lotsa onions. In fact, my favorite snack is an onion sandwich. Thick onion slices with a bit of cabbage or lettuce or fresh spinach or perhaps ruby chard on whole wheat with Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard.

Onions and garlic provide many health benefits, especially lower blood pressure. This is because eating plenty of onions causes irritating jerks to stay farther away. And the old legend about garlic keeping vampires away is certainly true, too. I haven't had vampires in my house since forever.

Onions and garlic belong to the Allium genus of the Amaryllidaceae family. The most commonly eaten members of this genus are onion (A. cepa), shallot (A. cepa v aggregatum), garlic (A. sativum), leek (A. ampeloprasum), chive (A. schoenoprasum), rocambole (A. scorodoprasum), ramp (A. tricoccum), striped garlic (A. cuthbertii), Welsh onion (A. fistolosum), red-skinned onion (A. haematochitin), lily leek (A. moly), field garlic (A. oleraceum), Oriental chive (A. tuberosum), and several others. No humanly inhabitable continent or climate on earth is without some edible member of the Allium genus native to it.

So, hey folks, whatever sort of onion or garlic or any of its relatives you can grow in your garden or buy in the store in your local area, eat and enjoy in health!
