The Ballad of the Great Revolt

In a bygone day, in a land far away,
The hunt was a favored sport.
The people all hunted most every day,
So the ancient journals report.

The nation abounded with plenteous game
Roaming through meadow and wood.
Hunters from countries around all came
Every chance they could.

But, alas, there arose to power one day
A vegetarian king.
No sooner was he on the throne, he'd say,
Hunting's an evil thing.

Tis cruelty unto the beasts, he decreed,
Hunting must be banned.
And there was much discontent, indeed,
Round and about the land.

All men together, both peasants and lords,
In revolt that fateful hour,
With bows and arrows and clashing swords,
Removed the king from power.

The people today are all hunting again
Ever since that day of fame.
For this is known as the time a reign
Was called on account of game.

A slightly modified version of this ballad is also presented here for use in role-playing games.
