R U C Site Conventions

A brief explanation of how and why I designed this site, and what some of the symbols I use mean.

This is essentially my own (Tony's) personal homepage, but rather than basing it around myself and what I am interested in, its central focus is just one of my interests (or perhaps a sort of catch-all for several of them), with myself and my other interests being a sort of sideline. Partly because of that, and partly because I'm a pretty geeky sort of bloke anyway, the site has a rather academic tone. Hopefully, though, you'll find it at least intellectually stimulating!

I chose a plain white background for three reasons. One, it makes it easier to read for anyone who has poor vision. Two, many of the fancier-looking sites I've seen are hard to follow even if you've got perfect vision! Three, graphic-heavy pages tend to take ages to load. If you like graphics, I've included links to some, but I don't want them cluttering up my main pages.

^ - Any link with this icon links to a page off this site. Most other links link (?? - there must be a better way of saying this!) to another (or the same) page within the site.

- This icon is usually a link to the main page of the site - exceptions are the guestbook (which I don't want to mess with too much) and the main page itself.

- This icon usually links to this page - exceptions are the guestbook, for reasons mentioned above, and (of course) this page.

These three icons are ones that I've created myself. Feel free to download them, and use them in any way you see fit. All other graphics are ones that I've copied off the net, and in many cases are copyrighted.
