Aircraft Noise

May increase to Unacceptable Levels

in your area unless you act now!

For the sake of your health & well-being

please read this information.

DO YOU LIVE OR WORK IN AN AFFECTED AREA?

Residential areas:
Queens Park, Cannington, East Cannington, Beckenham, Wilson, Ferndale, Lynwood, Langford, Thomlie
(in the local government areas of City of Canning, and City of Gosnells)

Industrial areas:
Welshpool & Kewdale.
(in the local government areas of City of Canning, and City of Belmont)

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO YOU?

Mr John Anderson, Minister of Transport & Regional Development rejected the Perth Airport Master plan because Airservices Australia could not validate the noise forecasts for the Perth Airport.

The Minister announced that further work was required on the draft Master Plan for Perth Airport.

The draft master plan has now been revised with new noise forecasts and is once again before the Minister for approval.

The Plan now includes an updated plan for the ultimate noise projections for our area.

These new noise exposure forecasts are dramatically worse than the original noise exposure concept (ANEC) plan in the original draft. These noise exposure forecasts now place you in a "severe aircraft noise exposure" zone.

THE MAP
Refer to the map inside for the anticipated aircraft noise level over your area. The areas on the map indicated 20, 25 and 30 zones are the ANEF noise affected areas. ANEF = Aircraft Noise Exposure Forecast.

The Table shows the Australian Standards of Unacceptable noise levels. Any residential, school or hospital buildings are unacceptable in an over 25 noise zone. People in a 20-25 noise zone are less affected but still experience problems and discomfort.

EFFECT OF THIS FORECAST?
According to the original Master Plan we were not to be affected by severe noise levels (ANEC). The former 25 contour line barely reached Queens Park and the 20 contour line merely reached the Canning River. (Therefore were not given consideration).

However this has now changed dramatically. The forecast noise levels now encompass many more suburbs.

UNINHABITABLE?
Are our suburbs now being declared unsuitable for residential habitation.

WHY?

DECEPTION OR INCOMPETENCE?

Was there a deliberate deception to misinform the residents of the southern corridor or was it simply a case of gross incompetence?
In either case, the Westralia Airports Corporation Master Plan is riddled with lies and misrepresentations. There is no mention in the Plan of any of our affected suburbs, nor of the 7 schools and 8,000+ residents affected.

Either way you have been denied your right under the Act to informed public consultation.

RE-OPEN THE PUBLIC CONSULTATION

Do these new forecasts morally oblige the reopening of public consultations. Are we entitled to now have our say about the future Airport Expansion Plans!

PARALLEL OR EAST-WEST RUNWAY?
Do you want a Parallel runway when the existing East-West runway can be upgraded?

SHARE THE NOISE?
Do you think the noise should be shared around Perth, rather than exclusively into our community? Should we be the only people whose well being and health will suffer?

AIRPORT CURFEW?
Are we not entitled to the same benefit afforded Sydney residents affected by aircraft noise?
The Federal Government imposed a curfew on Sydney Airport.

Federal Government Media Release

7Marchl999

"The Howard-Fischer Government is totally committed to enforcing the Sydney Airport curfew, the Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson, said today. Sydney Airport has a curfew between 11:00pm and 6:00am every day. The curfew is imposed under the Sydney Airport Curfew Act. Mr Anderson said:
"The curfew recognises that the people who live in the suburbs near the airport need some peace and quiet at night. We have substantially ameliorated the airport's noise impact through our Long Term Operating Plan.
