Location

Located on the east side of Samal. Gugo is bounded by Baranggay Imelda in the North, in the South by Baranggay Mabatang of the Municipality of Abucay, Baranggay Palili in the West and Baranggay Sapa Calaguiman in the East. Gugo is 115 kilometers away from Manila. You can go to Gugo via Roman National Highway or via Calaguiman-BNAS road. The atmosphere typically of an underdeveloped and rural village.

Landscape

Gugo generally composed of uplands and hills. It is constituted by three Puroks or villages, the Hacienda on the upper part, the Gugo Proper on the central part and the Adamson Village on the lower part. The land from Adamson is fairly flat which gently rises toward Sitio Proper. From there on the road to Sitio Hacienda is steep up to Baranggay Palili.

  1. Hacienda

  2. Evidently with its name, hacienda was a private land up to the early 1990's. Formerly a ranchland owned by a wealthy family from Baranggay Calaguiman, it was acquired by government banks and later on distributed and loaned it to its tenants.
  3. Proper

  4. Being the center of the baranggay, it has most of the main baranggay facilities (elementary school, barrio hall, most churches and grocery stores.
  5. Adamson

  6. Originally a land reserved for employees of the Bataan Pulp and Paper Mill Inc. (BPPMI), its residents were housed near each other unlike in Hacienda and Proper. This village also had its electricity and water supplied steadily by BPPMI, for free. This village's name was taken from the first president of the company.

Communications
As of now, there are no telephone lines yet in the upland areas of Samal. The only communication equipments used by some residents are citizens band radios, other cellular phones. But as for the telecommunication facilities, a telegraphic office and a post office is existing in the municipality.

Power Supply
Power distribution is administered by the Baranggay Power Association (BAPA) with Peninsula Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PENELCO). These are supplied by National Power Corporation which operates three large power plants in the province.

Water Supply
Responsibilities for the operation and maintenance of water supply facilities are under the supervision of Barangay Water District (BaWaSA). However, there are still some families situated in the more secluded areas that get their water from the natural springs.
