Background

The Southern Suburbs Camera Club (SSCC) was founded in 1962 for the purpose of advancing amateur photography in the south of Johannesburg. Many of our members however come from as far afield as Edenvale, Alberton and the West Rand Over the past 40 years the club has evolved to  become one of the leading Print Photography clubs in South Africa. Every two years we host the very popular "SSCC Print Challenge" in which camera clubs from all over compete against one another for the honour of becoming the best print club in the country.

The monthly activities of the club include  informative talks by various experts and culminating with  the exhibition and judging of Monochrome,  Colour,  Commercial and  Digital Prints and Colour Slides submitted by our members.  For the benefit of Beginners (1 Star) and Intermediate (2 Star) members, practical demonstrations are given by Advanced workers of the club in their private darkrooms and home studios. These talks will center around all factors  pertaining to our hobby covering subjects as varied as Portraiture, Still Life, Landscape, Sports and Nature photography.  Those that wish to do their own  darkroom processing and Computer photo manipulation can be instructed in how to do this. This instruction is free to members only.

The club prides itself on its ability to take a complete novice to photography and help him or her through all the stages to become an "Advanced" worker while still  promoting the fun and enjoyment of photography. We hope to make their experience of photography as fulfilling to them as it is to us.
