Introducing a New White's Tree Frog Into
Your Vivarium:
If your plan to get another frog I suggest
you follow theses steps before adding a second
to your vivarium.
- When you bring your new frog home do not
put him in your existing tank yet.
- Acquire a second, smaller, temporary tank
for your new herp.
- Put reptile carpet, or white paper towels
down for substrate. Use something that will
allow you to see his stools. If it is bloody
or runny, he may have internal parasites.
- Give him a water dish, and a piece of cork
bark to hide.
- Keep this tank, and water clean as you would
the larger one.
- Keep in a dark and quiet place where your
frog is not being stared at all day.
- Feed him as you normally would.
- Observe behavior for any illnesses and treat if needed.
- Make sure your main tank is large enough
for two White's. You'll need at least a 25
gallon for 2 white's. But this is the bare minimum, a larger one is more desireable. If you want to add
a third, you must get a larger tank. Do not overpopulate
your vivarium. (If you don't have to, don't add another to your enclosure because tree frogs are not sociable animals, they would prefer to be housed alone. Another frog would mean competition for food and territory.)
- After about a month or two if he is healthy
you can then introduce him to your larger
tank.
IMPORTANT:
Do not mix species! Each type of herp needs
specific requirements. And not all will get
along and you may end up with dead occupants.
Keep in mind that if one is sick it will
surely transmit it to your other frog. It's
easier and cheaper to treat just one frog
than to have to treat them all so if you
notice one of your frogs becoming ill, separate
it immediately.
Good Luck!
