The Little Silver Volunteer First Aid Squad had a busy year in 1997.
The squad handled a total of 404 calls, had a total of 2,223 miles traveled, and most importantly a total of 2,645 man hours. If the Boro of Little Silver had to pay for this service the cost would be as follows: if you multiply the manhours by $10.00 per hour (the average pay rate for an E.M.T.) the cost would of been $26,450.00. Remember that figure was for 30 members answering calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as a community service.

Now if you take that same $10.00 an hour, hire 2 EMT's per shift, times 2 or 3 shifts a day, times 24 hours a day for the entire year, it would come to a total of 17,520 man hours just to staff 1 ambulance. That would cost $175,200.00 for the year not including a benefit package. What does this all mean? It means a "BIG THANK YOU" to all of the volunteers who serve the squad.
