  Maggie Smith, MBA

In addition to academic administration, university teaching, and business management, Maggie Smith has over twenty years experience in marketing and computer-based information systems.

Her education includes a Bachelor of Science from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida. Additionally, she is a candidate for the Ph.D., Business Administration degree, from the University of Oklahoma and remains all-but-dissertation.

Ms. Smith's practical experience includes management of Marketing Decision Support Systems; corporate planning and budgeting; computer systems implementation and diversification projects; development and administration of a university intern program; design of management training programs; and leadership in the development of strategic planning, feasibility studies, and business venture analyses. She is also involved with technology resources, technological change initiatives, systems development, and Web integration.

Ms. Smith's United States residence is Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. She has lived in several countries, including The Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Russia , Venezuela, Cuba, several other islands in the Caribbean and has traveled extensively. Currently, she lives in Heidelberg, Germany and works for the University of Maryland University College - Maryland in Europe.

During 1994-1996, she taught at the Joint Siberian-American Department of Management, Irkutsk, Russia and in 1995-1996, she was the Faculty Coordinator for the Joint Siberian-American Department of Management. During the summer of 1995 she was at Far Eastern State University, Vladivostok, Russia. These programs are part of the University of Maryland University College's international programs.

She transferred to the University of Maryland University College - European Division during the summer of 1996. Her teaching areas include INSS, IFSM, CAPP, CMIS, and BMGT courses. She is the interim Academic Director for Business disciplines as well as the Associate Academic Director for Computer Studies. Previously to February 1, 2002, she was the Manager of Technology Resources at Maryland's headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. Her focus was on Academic Computing projects, coordinating with Computer Studies, as well as all disciplines, Faculty Development and maintains several Web sites. She works with the Distance Education and the IT departments on a variety of common projects. Supporting faculty course needs is also an important part of her day-to-day activities in her Academic Director positions.

Technology Resources focuses on Technology Resources and Academic Computing, Instructional Support, and Technology Innovations. It provides extensive information and links on these topics for faculty and administrators.

The Maryland Multimedia Computer Classrooms Web site provides instructors and students detailed information about the Maryland computer labs in Europe. It includes information about software and hardware configurations, exercises, lab locations and how to get help.

European Travelers@ is a Web site for instructors who travel with Maryland in Europe. It offers valuable information about Maryland's different locations around Europe, including the Education centers, military bases, housing, and has an excellent collection of links. Faculty and staff should contribute information to keep this Web site current.

Her personal interests include computer technology, computer "toys", real-time communications, scuba, down-hill skiing, travel, writing, and entertaining friends.
