FERENGI ALLIANCE

The Ferengi Alliance has a long and rich history. Detailed here are some of the major events that shaped Ferengi history.

Note that all dates are in Ferengi standard years.

0 - The Unification of Ferenginar

Prior to this time, Ferenginar was divided into dozens of feuding 'Commerce Zones', each battling each other for control of the planet. While they claimed to seek only to ensure economic freedom, the leaders of the Commerce Zones were clearly bent on military conquest, with no real interest in profit at all.
Then came Gint. Gint was a philosopher, who preached that Ferengi had fallen from grace in the eyes of the Blessed Executor, and, for them to restore their world, they must put aside their military ambitions and return to the pursuit of Profit above all else. Gint soon gained a large following, and took control of several major Commerce Zones.
The remaining Zone rulers, feeling their power was threatened, attempted to assassinate Gint several times, but he always escaped unharmed. They then tried to overthrow him with military force, leading to the battle of Bowog, the last battle to be fought on Ferenginar.
The Commerce Zone forces and those loyal to Gint fought for ten days and nights, neither making any progress. Finally, Gint himself entered the battlefield. Though shells exploded around him, he emerged unscathed, and forced his way through the Zone's forces, making his way to the commerce zone general himself... and bribed him with ten bars of latinum to end the war. The Zone general was so impressed by Gint's faith, that he surrendered his forces immediately. The rest of the Commerce Zones accepted Gint's rule, and Gint was declared the first Grand Nagus of Ferenginar.

207 - The Death of Gint, and the ascendancy of Yost.

After two hundred years of enlightened rule, Grand Nagus Gint finally died. Ferenginar fell into a panic. Gint had not named a successor. The position of Nagus remained unfilled, and many worried the days of Commerce Zones would return.
A charismatic Ferengi, Yost, claimed to have a solution. He said that if every Ferengi purchased a Gint memorial figure and prayed to it daily, the Blessed Executor of the Divine Treasury would permit Gint to return to Ferenginar.
Billions of Ferengi purchased Gint figures, but their show of faith was in vain. Gint did not return.
However, Yost, who owned a sizeable share in the company making the figurines soon became the richest man on Ferenginar, and was able to declare himself the Second Grand Nagus.

500 - 15,000 - Profit Above All

For the next 10,000 years, the Ferengi began refining their business strategies. Under the guidance of Nagi such as Frek, Smeet, and Brolok, Ferenginar becomes an entire world dedicated only to profit. Colonies are established on the Ferenginar moons and several other planets in the system. Many Rules of Acquisition are written, and several major companies, such as Slug-o-Cola™ and ChiggerBurgerCorp, are established.

15,074 - Expand... or Die

A Breen merchant lands on Ferenginar. Known only as 'The Masked Breen', the merchant sell the Ferengi warp drive, in exchange for the Ferenginar North Pole, the Ferenginar South Pole, seven icy moons throughout the system, and a variety of comets.
The Ferengi, now in possession of Warp Drive, begin expanding. Small colonies are established on other planets, and several entrepreneurs begin exploiting various pre-warp civilisations, with several being purchased outright. The Ferenginar Government is officially re-named 'The Ferengi Alliance'.

15,791 - Vurp the Inevitable

The legendary Ferengi Daimon, Vurp, with the aid of a band of Orion mercenaries, seizes control of the Ferengi government, and turns it into a virtual police state. However, the Ferengi Commerce Authority (FCA) begins a massive audit of the Vurp regime, bankrupting the would-be dictator.

17,231 - The Stars are made of Latinum

The Great Overpopulation crisis leads to a massive strain on Ferenginar's resources. With billions of Ferengi living on homeworld, something needed to be done.
Rumors began that a lone prospector called Mad Zook had found a massive latinum mine on the distant world of Chimera Pi. Soon, other latinum finds were reported on other outlying systems. Millions of Ferengi left homeworld to seek their fortune on other worlds.
Eventually, the reports were traced back to the Ferengi Office of Population Control, but by then, it no longer mattered. The Ferengi prospectors had not found Latinum, but they discovered something even more valuable. Aliens, many of which were easily exploitable. The Ferengi domination of the Alpha Quadrant's economy had begun in earnest.

17,342 - An Insidious Blight

The Ferengi Alliance make first contact with the Tholian Assembly. After less than a week of negotiations, the Tholians declare the Ferengi to be 'A foul blight on the face of the universe. A pernicious infestation that must be eliminated'.
Soon after, a trade route between Tholis and Ferenginar is established, exchanging Tholian Silk for Ferengi Bog Moss. However, the Tholians continue to make threats towards the alliance for the next thousand years.

17,486 - The Hupyurian War

The first off world conflict fought by Ferengi. A rebel force known as the Hupyurian People's Unity Front attempted to seize Nagus Oblat's Duridium mines on Hupyuria. Although early in the war the Ferengi suffered heavy losses, the tide soon turned, and the Duridium mines were liberated.

17,882 - The Year Everything Changed

In 17,882, the Ferengi Alliance discovered Time Travel. Chaos erupted. Over twenty thousand Grand Nagi held office, 41,098 civil wars broke out, several million interstellar wars were started, and the Ferengi sun went nova on a weekly basis.
When the timeline had been stabilised, and history returned to a more or less linear model, an unknown Ferengi called Twim was Grand Nagus, and the punishment for time travel was death.
Exact details on this year are sketchy, due to the sheer number of temporal disruptions.

18,101 - Dignity and an Empty Sack

In 18,101, the Ferengi make first contact with the Lytasians. A group of distinguished Ferengi statesmen, including Grand Nagus Zek, met with the Lytasians on their homeworld, to discuss membership in the Ferengi Alliance. After Zek presented the Lystasians with an extremely generous gift of a diamond encrusted latinum bust of himself, the Lysians presented Zek with their gift... an empty sack.
The Lystasians claimed that it would insult the Nagus's dignity for them to claim they could possible own something he could want. Zek was not impressed, and declared war on the Lystasians, stating 'Diginity and an Empty Sack... is worth the sack!'

18,105 - End of the War

The Ferengi-Lystasian war, the only interstellar war fought by the Ferengi Alliance, comes to an end.

18,196 - The Battle of Maxia

A Ferengi marauder encounters the Federation starship Stargazer, under the command of a Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Maxia Zeta system. For reasons unknown, the Ferengi captain opens fire on the Stargazer. In the brief battle, the Stargazer is heavily damaged, and the Ferengi ship is destroyed with the loss of all hands, including its commander, Daimon Bok's son.

18,205 - First Contact

A Ferengi marauder, commanded by Daimon Taar makes the first official contact with the United Federation of Planets, in the Delphi Ardu system. Although the Federation originally sees the Ferengi as a military threat, the Ferengi government soon rectified that misconception, and established trade relations with the Federation.

18,210 - Grand Nagus Quark

Grand Nagus Zek is believed to have died, and is succeeded by a bartender called Quark. It later turned out that Zek faked his own death to acess his son Krax's suitability as Nagus. Zek decided Krax is unsuitable to serve as Nagus, and resumed his position as Grand Nagus.
Krax is most displeased, and began plotting his revenge.

18,215 - Chaos, Anarchy, and Taxes

Grand Nagus Zek, without any motive whatsoever, began making various 'reforms' to Ferengi society. His first, a declaration of the equality of women in Ferengi society was particularly poorly thought out. This declaration, made without the support of any major company, lead to Zek being overthrown. Eventually, with the aid of Slug-o-Cola™ Inc., he reclaimed his position, but failed to learn any better. Although more cautious, he continued to implement reforms, including the implementation of Taxation, a diluting of the powers of the Nagus, and the banning of commercial monopolies. Many high ranking Ferengi were disgusted by these actions.

18,216 - Rom the Inept

After single handedly setting Ferengi economic strength back more than a century, Grand Nagus Zek retired. He was replaced by an unknown engineer, Rom.
Rom proved to be even more damaging to Ferengi society than Zek, as he attempted to create an acceptance of decadent hewmon values in Ferengi society. Despite his lack of support by the mega-corperations, Rom continued to attempt convince the Ferengi people to join the Federation throughout his four year reign.

18,220 - The Fall of Ferenginar Prime

A Borg invasion force launched an attack on all major races. After the destruction of the Romulan and Klingon empires, the fall of Cardassia, and the destruction of most of the Federation, the Borg were finally driven off by a combined Romulan and Federation fleet in the Sol system.
However, the Borg had one last attack to make. As the Ferengi Alliance celebrated their survival, a Borg scoutship was detected on the edge of Ferengi space. An alliance fleet was dispatched to investigate, but never returned.
Grand Nagus Rom, realising the threat of the Borg placed the Ferengi alliance under martial law for the first time in its ten-thousand-year history. The entire Ferengi fleet was assigned to defend Ferenginar, under the command of Daimon Bok.
Without warning, three Borg cubes came out of transwarp in the middle of the Ferengi fleet. Bok ordered the retreat, but most of the fleet was lost in the first few minutes. The Ferengi could do nothing but watch in horror as the Borg destroyed Ferenginar.

18,221 - The Year of Rebirth.

The survivors of the Ferengi alliance regrouped on Maxia Epsilon. A new government was established, and several D'kora class marauders were repaired and made operational. Long range sensors indicated the Borg had left the Ferenginar system, and an automated probe was sent to investigate. Finding Ferenginar free of Borg activity, the Maxia Epsilon government sent a colony ship to try and salvage the system.
Upon arrival, the ship encountered another ship, crewed by Orions. The Orion system had survived the Borg incursion intact, and was attempting to restore communications with the Ferengi Alliance. The Orions agreed to unify with the Maxia Epsilon government, though some factions of their government were strongly opposed.
At the end of the year, Maxia Epsilon leader Krax declared the formation of a new government, the Trade Federation. Krax was declared the first Grand Nagus of the Federation.

18,222 - The Year we made contact.

Long range communications were re-established with the rest of the quadrant. The Trade Federation found several other systems had survived the Borg, and began trading with several of them.
The Galactic Council was formed in an effort to unite the various splinter groups of the major empires.

18,224 - Forging Alliances

Ambassadors from the Mnhai'Shae Protectorate and the Kelsonite Consortium secretly approach Grand Nagus Krax, asking him to join them in an alliance of the foremost powers in the galaxy. Named 'The Eastern Coalition', this alliance marked the first major political move made by the Trade Federation, and was the first step in their advancement towards becoming a major power.

18,232 - A Voice in the Wilderness

Trade Federation Admiral Bok encounters a heavily damaged fleet while on an exploratory mission. The fleet is revealed to be composed of Breen refugee transports, led by Thot Ghor.
After brief negotiations, Ghor agrees to join the Trade Federation, in exchange for a new homeworld for the Breen.

18,233 - The Rebellion and the rise of Bok

Dissatisfied citizens on Orion stage a rebellion. After capturing a Fort Knox class station and seizing several warships, terrorist leader Fakarn declares Orion independent.
Grand Nagus Krax, in an effort to prevent a war from breaking out, travels to Orion to negotiate with Fakarn's government.
Admiral Bok, meanwhile, had other plans. He ordered a secret Breen warship to ambush the Nagus's transport, destroying it. Krax was killed instantly.
Admiral Bok succeeds Krax as Nagus, and declares war on Orion.

18,234 - Ragesh III

In a surprising move, the newly established military government of the United Ferengi States mounted an offence on the civilian agricultural colony on Ragesh III. The colony fell almost immediately.
The United States did not have the military power to hold this system, however, and were soon forced into the humiliating treaty of Ragesh, whereby they had to turn more than 70% of their military over to the Eastern Coalition.

18,236 - Conquests and Copyrights

The Tekron Imperium invades and conquers the Free Independent Planets. In a show of generosity, they turn the Garthog colony over to the Trade Federation.
The Trade Federation's ally, the Alcatraz Collection, is discovered to have been selling Eastern Coalition copyrighted ship designs. As per Trade Federation law, a fleet of Federation warships was dispatched to deal with the piraters. Unfortunately, the Alcatraz leadership fled before they could be brought to trial. However, the Trade Federation, working with the Tekron Imperium and the Kelsonite Consortium, were able to seize all Alcatraz systems and industry.

18,238 - A Legal Blockade

After several months of searching, FCA agents discovered that the surviving members of the Alcatraz Collection Government had fled to the Galactic Patrol, a minor nation to the west of the Trade Federation.
The Trade Federation government sent several messages, demanding the extradition of these criminals, but received no response. Finally, in desperation, the Federation dispatched a small fleet to blockade the Patrol until they surrendered the criminals.
Fleets from several nations attempted to stop the blockade, leading to a tense stand off, until the Galactic Patrol government finally agreed to surrender the criminals.

18,239 - The Year we took back what was ours.

Breen leader Thot Ghor, in return for control of the ice world Orion IV (Frigis), ordered all Breen forces to attack the rebel Orion system.
In the brief battle that took place between the Orion forces and the Breen, the Orion orbital station was destroyed, along with the bulk of the Orion navy. However, a significant portion of the Orion population and navy escaped to the League of Non-Aligned Worlds.
Following this victory, Orion IV was colonised by the Breen, and became their new homeworld. Soon after, the Breen officially joined the Trade Federation.

18,242 - The Battle of Aragnarack Prime

Hearing of terrible atrocities against the civilian populace being committed against the civilian populace by the FKO government, the Trade Federation, alongside the Tekron Imperium and the Universal Federation Onslaught, took it upon themselves to liberate the systems.
After a brief battle above the FKO homeworlds, troops were landed, and quickly overthrew the corrupt and evil government.
Following the battle, the colony of Aragnarack Nine became a member state of the Trade Federation.

18,243 - The Battle of Midgard and the End of the Trade Federation

Grand Nagus Bok, eager to expand his empire, planned an attack on the Cleft of Dimensions. A covert fleet, dubbed 'Black Omega', was ordered to patrol the Cleft sectors until reinforcements from the Kelsonite and Tekron empires arrived. When the entire fleet was assembled, they launched a vicious and brutal attack on the Cleft homeworld of Midgard. The entire Cleft fleet was destroyed before their allies could respond, and Trade Federation troops were deployed on Midgard.
However, the Federation forces were unable to overcome the Cleft defenders. News of the unprovoked attack spread, and several nations declared war on the Federation, the Kelsonites and the Tekron, including the mysterious Federation Imperium.
Bok's desperate efforts to talk his way out of trouble failed. No outside nation believed his explanation that the attack was due to a miscommunication, and an Imperium Omega class Baseship entered Trade Federation territory. The Federation fleet, led by Admiral Mitt scrambled to intercept the Imperium forces. Mitt, however, had grown suspicious of Bok's explanation for the attack, and soon uncovered proof that the attack had taken place under Bok's direct orders.
Mitt quickly explained the truth to the Imperium commander, who agreed to withdraw from Trade Federation space, as soon as Grand Nagus Bok agreed to step down. After a tense few moments, Mitt finally convinced Bok to resign as Nagus, and stand trial for war crimes.
Soon after, Mitt ascended the throne of Grand Nagus, becoming the first female Nagus in Ferengi history. As one of her first actions, she declared the Trade Federation was no more, and had the nation officially restored to the Ferengi Alliance. Soon after, she withdrew the Alliance from the Eastern Coalition, even as vengeful Magna Imperia vessels began a crippling attack on the Coalition nations.
