I was born in Birmingham on the 20th of July 1978. My early years are shrouded in mystery and the later ones aren't much better.

It was during my early life that I first discovered science and science fiction. These two things have had a big influence on me.

After a disappointing early career when I failed to achieve a Nobel prize by the age of 7, I entered Durham University . I went to St Chad's College and studied for a B.Sc. Degree in Geology. I was once the JCR computer secretary at Chad's so check out the JCR home pages!. I also held the ancient post of Wine Cellar Keeper, a job which sparked my interest in fine wine.

At the moment I can be found in Milton Keynes at the Open University in the Departement of Earth Sciences , where I am studying for a Ph.D. in geochemistry . Each year I travel back to Durham for a few weeks  to teach at the Open Univeristy summer school, usually a lot of fun and the pays not bad either!

Interesting events that have occurred on my Birthday- July 20th

1944 - The plot to Assassinate Adolf Hitler ended when he was miraculously saved by a table leg placed between him and the Bomb.

1969 - Neil Armstrong landed on the Moon and said the famous words that everyone now misquotes. It should be 'This is one small step for a man....'

1976 - The Viking space probe landed on Mars and sent back the first colour images.

2078 - Annual day of celebration announced to commemorate the Centenary of Stephen Harding's birth, sometime Galactic President and inventor of the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.
