        Cobras and Cobra Parents,

Since so many of you were not present at our final game on Saturday, I
wanted to let you all know what took place.

As you know, Saturday morning had terrible weather but they did not
cancel games due to the fact that the fields were still in good shape
and it was the last game of the season. Also, they had received much
negative feedback on the cancellation of games on Week 1 due to the
threat of rain. Initially, only 7 Cobra players showed up and I was
reluctant to play. The Hammerheads showed up in force with 11 players
and our chances against them looked grim. We were going to play 7 vs
7 as a scrimmage until our eighth player showed up along with the
referee. So we ended up playing with only eight players for the
second time this season against the Hammerheads.

Against all odds, the Cobra players again raised their level of play
and scored a decisive 3-0 victory! All this in terrible conditions
and with no substitutions. It was the first time in 4 tries that we
        have beaten the Hammerheads.

Some of the Cobra players were very "down" emotionally during our 3
game losing streak this season. We missed many practices due to
weather conditions. But, we learned some valuable lessons with the
Jupiter game. We upset the undefeated, top team in the league! It was
a total team effort (like Saturday), not relying on a few key
individuals. We learned that if you have to approach any difficult
task and decide that you will put forth your best effort that you can
sometimes be successful. Sometimes not, but at least give yourself
the chance by putting forth your best effort. That is all anyone can
ask. The Cobras have learned this lesson well.

Since James will not be returning next fall in order to try his hand
at football, I want to wish all the returning players the best of luck
next season. If the Cobras remain a team after the U11 transition, I
am sure that you will see me on the sidelines (as a spectator) at one
        of your games next fall.

        Cobras and Cobra Parents,

I was very happy to hear about the fantastic game played against our old
rival, the Hammerheads! We finally beat them after four tries. This was
especially impressive considering we only had 8 players and no substitutes.

Again, I am really proud of the way the team played together this season
and the effort displayed by all Cobra players. We finished with a 3 - 4 -
1 record which probably put us in the middle of the pack in either 3rd. or
4th. place. It's been a good year for the cobras starting last fall and
continuing through the winter indoor leagues and the Spring league.

For the Cobras that missed the final game, I have your Award
certificates, so please call me to arrange pick-up. I am looking
forward to the fall season, if we are together again as a team.

        Cobras and Cobra Parents,

Saturday's game was an impressive display of teamwork by the Cobras.
Forced to play the entire game without substitutions as we had only
eight players, everyone stepped up to the challenge and earned a tie
with the Hammerheads. It was a game of firsts: the first time that
we used the 2-3-2 formation; first goals of the season scored by
Connor and Daniel; first time in three seasons that we have not lost
        to the Hammerheads.

The midfielders really came through on both offense and defense.
Andrew had an awesome second half and kept offensive pressure on the
Hammerheads. (You know what I always say, "they can't score if we
have the ball.") Connor scored and had three effective headers. James
kept up the offensive pressure and passed effectively into the middle.
Jacob had his best game as a Cobra and played well up and down the
field. Tayler shut out the Hammerheads in the second half after some
defensive lapses left us behind at halftime. Daniel scored and played
a hard-nosed game and moved well with the flow of the game. Kevin was
outstanding at back and prevented many scoring chances. Alex played a
high-energy game and showed his toughness by playing with a bloody
nose in the second half after scoring earlier and earning an assist.

We learned that even when our backs are to the wall and we are missing
some key players, we are able to rise to the occasion and beat the
odds if we believe in ourselves and put out our best effort. You all
played like champions and I am proud of your effort on Saturday. I am
sure that if we have a few more players and play with the same
intensity, patience and teamwork, that we will beat the Hammerheads
when we play them later in the season.

See you at practice on Wednesday at 5:00. Players, make sure you bring
all of your equipment with you.

        Cobras and Cobra Parents,

Great game today to start the Spring season! I was proud of the way
everyone played as we beat Thor 3-2 on 2 late-game, come from behind
goals. Everyone played hard and worked well together as a team. The
passing was especially good on the front line.

        Here are a few highlights:

        * Tayler the "Wall" played his usual stingy game in goal (first half)
shutting out the Thor with many great saves.

        * Julius scored two goals on assists from Dana and Alex, one of them an
          incredible top shelfer!

        * Alex showed his usual dexterity and speed with the ball and scored the
first goal to get us going.

        * Dana was in his usual "All Hustle" mode, playing with intensity from one
          end to the other.

        * Patrick played a great game on defense with many great stops and hustle
          plays.

        * Kevin, Bradley and and Connor covered well at the Full Back position.

        * There was great all-around play from the mid-field line consisting of
Andrew, Daniel, Tayler, Jacob and Brian.

        * James played well at forward with several good hustle plays.

        * Brian played a great first game in goal, keeping us in the game in the
          second half.

I am looking forward to a great, fun-filled season.

Sara has volunteered to serve as Team Manager. Thanks Sara and
        welcome to the Cobras!

See you at practice on Wednesday and at our next game this Saturday when
        we play Jupiter at 2:15pm.

        Coach Rod
