The Crayfishes of Missouri

    This is a 152 page book published by the Missouri Department of Conservation. It's a textbook style book, with many color photographs. This book is full of information, including: Location maps of streams and rivers, Habitat and Life History of many species of crayfish, and Anatomy illistrations.

    For any crayfish lovers (Missouri residents, or not), I would recomend this book.

          About the Author

    William L. Pflieger--born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1932--holds a bachelor of science and master of science degrees from Ohio State Universtiy, and a doctorate from the University of Kansas.
    He joined the fisheries research staff of the Missouri Department of Conservation in 1961, and during the next 34 years conducted research on a variety of topics relating to the distribution and biology of Missouri fish and crayfish.
    Pflieger has authored or coauthored numerous scientific papers. However, he is best known for his book, "The Fishes of Missouri," which was published by the Conservation Department in 1975.
    He has been active in the Department's programs of protection of natural areas and rare and endangered species, and for many years was a member of the Missouri Natural Areas Committee.
    Pflieger retired from the Department in 1995, and resides with his wife, Jo Ann, on 175 wooded acres near Ashland, Missouri. He spends much of his time managing his land for its natural values, and persuing other hobbies that keep him outdoors, and close to nature.
