Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) is the largest and oldest agricultural university of Banglaseh. It was established in 1961. BAU offers Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degree in different fields of agriculture. At present it has six faculties and 39 academic departments.

Bangladesh Rice Research Institute

Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) is one of the important research institute for agricultural development in Bangladesh. It was established in October 1970. BRRI is engaged in undertaking both basic research as well as applied research on rice agriculture in order to improve the welfare of rice producers and consumers of Bangladesh. BRRI has 9 regional stations scattered throughout the country. Research program of BRRI is operated under seven Program Areas: Varietal Development, Crop-Soil-Water Management, Pest Management, Rice Farming System, Farm Mechanization, Socio-Economic and Policy, and Technology Transfer. These seven programm areas are divided into 49 Sub-Programme Areas. BRRI has a total manpower of 762 (4 managerial positions, 265 scientific positions and 493 support services positions). Its annual budget (salary and allowances) is about 52.3 Million Taka (approximately 1.19 million US$). BRRI has so far developed 31 modern rice varieties for cultivation in different rice growing seasons. BRRI varieties are grown both under rainfed and irrigated condition. BRRI varieties cover 52 percent of the rice area and 70 percent of the total rice production in Bangladesh. Popular BRRI varieties are BR 11, BR 3, BR 10, BR 4, BR 14, and BR 1. BRRI scientists also developed System Based National Fertilizer Recommentdation Guide and Management Technologies for Sulphur and Zinc Deficient areas. BRRI has identified 175 insects and 31 diseases of rice prevailing in Bangladesh. Among these insects and diseases 20 are major insects while 10 are major diseases. As a measure of yield recovery from insects and diseases BRRI has been successful to incorporate varietal resistance, and chemical and cultural control practices which are environmental friendly.(Source: Dr.Uttam Kumar Dev).

Bangabandhu University of Post Graduate Education in Agriculture

Bangabandhu University of Post Graduate Education in Agriculture is reputed postgraduate educational institute in Bangladesh. First it was established in 1983 as Bangladesh College of Agricultural Sciences and subsequently developed into a postgraduate institute named as Institute of Postgraduate Studies in Agriculture (IPSA). It was established through the active collaboration and cooperation of the Governments of Bangladesh, Japan, and USA. By 1996, IPSA able to established its reputation as a "centre of excellence" in agricultural education. In 1997, this reputed institute has been transformed to a University and renamed as Bangabandhu University of Post Graduate Education in Agriculture which was later on approved in a Cabinet meeting in June 1997.

Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) is the one of the pioneer research institute in development research in Bangladesh. The institute carries out basic research studies on the problem of development in Bangladesh. It also provides training in socio-economic analysis and research methodology for the professional members of its staff and for members of other organizations concerned with development problems. Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission

The Head Office of the BAEC is at present located in the campus of the Atomic Energy Centre Dhaka Offices of the Chairman, members and the secretariat of the commission are located here. There are eleven divisions in the head office responsible for management of research and development activities, planning and development of new projects and maintenance of international relations. The Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture was setup at Mymensingh. Over the years a number of research institutes and centres has been established for undertaking research and development activities and giving services in the areas of physical, biological and medical sciences and significant progress has been achieved in the field of nuclear medicine, application of radioisotopes in industry, food preservation, medical product sterilization by using ionizing radiation and heavy mineral prospection.
