Experience and Accomplishments

1999 to present - Senior Software Engineer - MERANT, Rockville, MD

Lead developer for a product which extends legacy CICS applications to the web as JavaBean/EJB and COM components. Possessed "end-to-end" product knowledge. Evaluated new technologies for inclusion in the product. Primary development contact for Product Management, QA, field consultants and technical support. Acted as development manager's backup.

Architected and implemented a highly scalable MQSeries middleware interface between web/application servers and mainframe CICS transactions. All code delivered on schedule with low defect rate.
Deployed generated EJB components as well as servlets and JSP front ends to WebSphere and WebLogic application servers as well as wireless front ends to J2ME and WAP enabled devices. Wrote documentation for deployment procedures. Provided cross training to other organizations.
Provided onsite pre-sales demonstrations for prospects. Demonstrations led to customer commitments for field evaluations.
Acted as product support focal point ensuring success during customer evaluations
Developed and delivered "boot camp" training for technical support and field consultants. Training was well received and allowed both groups to hit the ground running when product became generally available.

1994 to 1999 - Senior Technical Support Representative - MERANT, Rockville, MD

Technical lead of call center providing support for a component based, object-oriented C++ development
framework, a C++ GUI class library and a GUI/Character based code generation tool. Responsible for prioritizing
defects across all product lines, QA of upcoming releases, evaluating new technologies, managing
hardware/software budget, rollout of corporate FTP server and acting as mentor of new tech support reps.

Assessed and prioritized customer reported incidents and recreated on appropriate hardware/software
platform. Managed incident from initial call through resolution, proactively communicating status to customers
and ensuring that customer's delivery schedules were not impacted.
Supervised department QA effort on new product release. Designed and executed complex test cases.
Kept team on schedule. Areas of QA responsibility had low defect rate.
Managed 75K department equipment/software budget. Prepared budget that balanced needs with available
funds and ensured that necessary hardware and software required to support our products was in place.
Expenditures consistently were at or under forecast. Set up department Windows NT server allowing
all software to be inventoried and installed from a central site.
Led team designing corporate FTP server reporting to Vice President of Development. Gathered requirements
from organizations throughout the corporation. Launched server on schedule. Published corporate guidelines
for server's use.
Identified the need for a migration course for our GUI/Character based code generator. Created and
delivered course on schedule. Taught onsite and public classes, which were all highly rated.

1990 to 1994 - Advisory Instructor Developer, IBM Corporation, Gaithersburg, MD

Designed, developed and taught networking courseware for IBM clients and internal audiences.
Specialized in APPC/APPN an client/server programming. Provided consulting services to clients for
distributed application solutions and presented at IBM User Group meetings.

Taught "Designing Client/Server Applications Using APPC", "SNA LU6.2 Data Flow", "Fundamentals of SNA",
"AS/400 Communication Introduction", "AS/400 Peer Communications", and "AS/400 to S/390 Communications"
to a wide variety of audiences.
Developed OS/2 Communications Manager and AS/400 communications curriculum with little prior knowledge
on either platform saving management from hiring additional personnel.
Instituted a process to certify IBM System Engineers to teach courses, allowing for greater market coverage
and reduced teaching expenses.
Managed staff and coordinated presenters at 1991 Communications Systems Technical Conference.
Conference generated $1.2 million in revenue.

1987 to 1990 - Staff Programmer, VTAM Development, IBM Corporation, Research Triangle Park, NC

Led and directed a release team of 50 people developing a major VTAM release (80K of code).
Wrote product functional specifications. Oversaw code inspections. Delivered release on time with high quality.
Designed and coded several line items in two VM SNA Console Support (VSCS) releases.
Presented "Installing VTAM On VM/XA Systems" at IBM User Group meeting.

1983 to 1987 - Associate/Sr Associate Programmer, IBM Corporation, Kingston, NY/RTP, NC

VM systems programmer responsible for maintaining communications product that was widely used throughout
IBM prior to the availability of SNA on VM systems.

Modified and maintained VM/SP operating system code to support internal communications product.
Acted as technical support focal point for IBM Internal customers.
Designed and delivered installation and maintenance training classes.
Wrote installation documentation, created service tapes, service memos and coordinated product packaging.
