Digha, India, 1996.

Hi ! I'm Sitabhra. Welcome to my homepage.

September 2002: I have just joined the faculty of the theoretical physics group at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in Chennai (Madras), India. Please visit my website at IMSc.

October 2001: I am organising a Santa Fe Institute-sponsored workshop on ``Dynamics of Networks and Spatially Extended Systems'' at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Calcutta, India, between Jan. 21-23, 2002. For details see the workshop home page.

Aug. 8, 2001: I have just added a new page on my research on the spatio-temporal dynamics of pacing termination of cardiac reentry. Check it out!

I have recently been selected as an International Junior Fellow of the Santa Fe Institute for the period 2000-2002.

I am presently a postdoc at the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. I did my Ph.D. on the nonlinear dynamics of excitatory-inhibitory neural network models at the Machine Intelligence Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta. After spending 2 years (Nov. 1998 - Sep. 2000) as postdoc at the Dept. of Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, I was a postdoc at the Division of Cardiology, Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City for about a year (Oct. 2000 - Aug. 2001). I worked with David Christini in looking at the effect of electrical pacing in the treatment of ventricular tachycardia through numerical simulation of excitable media models of cardiac tissue.
Right now I am back at the Indian Institute of Science.

My research interests fall in (but not necessarily restricted to) the following fields:

For further details on my research see the page on my research interests and the list of my publications - some of the papers are downloadable.

In my spare time I try to catch up with my reading, especially history and fiction (mostly 20th century European and Latin American and lots of Science Fiction). For more on this see Sitabhra's Bookshelf

I am also entranced by Omar Khayyam, the medieval Persian mathematician-astronomer-poet. I am currently engaged in building a web-site devoted to exploring the entire multi-faceted genius of Omar. It is currently under construction, but you can take a peek at The Omar Khayyam Page. I would be delighted to get comments, suggestions and ideas concerning how I should go about building it.

This page will be updated off and on as time permits. Email me at sitabhra@yahoo.com in the meantime.
Please come back soon and visit me.
