BATMAN FOREVER

The new batman is crap. Utter, utter, utter, crap. The pity is, 
Batman Forever had the potential to be a great movie. While it 
should be congratulated for injecting more humour and action 
into its (paper-thin)  plot, it also suffers from the the same factor
thatmade its prequels so mind-numbingly boring. 

Batman Forever suffers under its own over-produced concepts. 
Beneath the breathtaking sets, costumes and special effects, 
there is absolutely no flow in storyline or no warmth or interest 
in ANY of the characters. The action sequences are good but
they are poorely edited and (like Die Hard III) not very original
 - its all been seen before.

The characters themselves are likeable, but uninvolving. Val 
Kilmer does brings more hero-like power to the comic book 
craped - sorry caped - crusader, but lacks the mystery of 
Michael Keaton. Jim Carrey as The Riddler is, however, 
wonderfully evil and over the top, but his characters prominance 
mistakenly overshadows the involvment of the other main 
characters - Two Face (a great performance by Tommy Lee 
Jones), Chase Meridian (pouty, but cold faced Nicole Kidman) 
and Robin the Boy Wonder (routinely done by Chris O'Donnel). 
In addition, those nautie twosome Sugar and Spice (Drew 
Barrymore and that woman from LA Law) are greatly underused 
and could have been given more lines.

If only the Hollywood movie makers of today would take 
themselves less seriously and realise that, just because we are 
living in the nineties, it does not mean every detail has to be dark, 
gloomy and without depth. Batman Forever may be abundant 
with glorious design and special effects, but, like its predessors 
and also in many way Spielbergs' Jurrasic Park, it all lacks that 
special 'magic' that lifts a motion picture from mundane to something 
special. Batman Forever is certainly nothing special at all.
