Crissy and Family

The Ideal Toy Company made the Crissy family of dolls in the late 1960's through the 1970's. And I just love all 18 inches of them! (Note: Velvet and Tara are 15 inches tall.) Their hair grows usually to the length of their knees with a push of a button on their stomach. Conversely, turn the knob on their back to get the hair to grow back into their heads. The American Character Doll Company first patented this idea.

Crissy began my vinyl doll collection and they have the coolest wardrobe this side of "Good Times." Their fashions truly reflect the Seventies fashion scene which in some cases I will never understand. But, who could resist fashions with names like Grape Drape, Lip Smackin' Good, Snuggler and Very Vanilla?

Currently, I have six Crissy family dolls in my collection. The family breakdown is as follows: Crissy and Velvet are cousins and Cinnamon is Velvet's little sister. Tressy and Crissy are best friends as are Tara and Velvet.

Tressy

Tressy, my favorite family member is absolutely gorgeous! Tressy was a Sears exclusive and is a rare find in the black version. She's wearing the darker yellow version of The Sleeper Bells, an original untagged outfit for Crissy. Note: Tressy's original outfit is an orange and white geometric print dress.

Look Around Crissy

Look Around Crissy "looks" around from left to right when you pull the string in her back. She's wearing one of my favorite outfits, The City Pants Look, another one of the original six untagged outfits that Ideal made for her. Note: Crissy's original outfit is a green plaid taffeta gown.

Moovin' & Groovin' Velvet

Moovin' & Groovin' Velvet has a waist that can be posed. She has a really cute impish look and big dark black eyes. Velvet's wearing Superstars. I really like the bright colors of the outfit. Note: Velvet's original outfit is a pink party dress.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has a hair mechanism called a hair doodler that allows you to pull her hair above her head in a mass of curls. She has painted on eyes, as opposed to the other family members who have sleep eyes. And at 12 inches tall, she is the shortest member of the family! (Shown in original outfit.)

Tara

Tara is the only family member that was made solely in an African American version, she's also considered the hardest to find. Her box that has a beautiful little black girl pictured on it. Mine came MIB and although I take her out from time to time, I can't bear to take the plastic off from her head. (Shown in original outfit.)

Baby Crissy

Baby Crissy represents what Crissy looked like as an infant. This first issue edition wears her original 2-piece lavender playsuit and can be dressed in real infant clothing. Her hair growing mechanism is different than the other family members in that she has a pull string in her back as opposed to a knob. I'm lucky enough to have her original box!
