Charlie's Angels

Return

I also saw Charlie's Angels. This movie is dumb-as-all-get-out, and it rips off other movies' plot contrivances (how many times can we see a high-tech burglary in a high-tech "black vault"?). But it's amusing if not actually laugh-out-loud funny, and the fight scenes are outstanding.

Sure, you see all the best parts in the commercials, but they're good parts, and worth seeing multiple times.

Bill Murray, as has been pointed out, has nothing much to do here. The scripters figured, "Eh, we'll just write some lines for Bill Murray. He'll make them funny by improvising." Well, he doesn't, really. Typical Murray schtick, not terribly inspired.

The three dames are okay. They're not really all that convincing, but then, they're not supposed to be. They're not that funny, and they're too goofy to be sexy. But man-- can they karate kick!

Recommended, but know in advance what you're in for: A dumb movie which is smart enough to know how dumb it is, but is occasionally annoying with its cheekiness and campiness. A dumb, obvious, trite script; no real suspense (once again, the film is too goofy and campy to really draw you in emotionally). Solid (verging on spectacular) action direction, blowing away the Matrix in several places.
