Return

However, since y'all are so enamored of Toby--

He co-stars (well, maybe not co-stars; he has a significant secondary role) in my all-time favorite made-for-HBO movie, "The Pentagon Wars," playing this month on HBO. Based on actual events, it's about the alleged idiocy which went into designing the Bradley fighting vehicle; "Toby" plays the quasi-tank's original designer, who beings to go bonkers when clueless Generals begin making increasingly absurd requests for design changes ("What about putting portholes in it so the men can shoot at the enemy from inside...? What about making it amphibious?" Toby: (exasperated) "Fine! Why not!")

The movie stars Kelsey Grammer-- a very good performance-- and Cary Elwes as the good guy, Toby's successor. Toby plays a sort of "Deep Throat" to Elwes, passing him information about the awful design of the Bradley, spurring him to investigate.

It's a funny little piece of stealth-leftist agitprop, accent on the *stealth,* because the film mainly manages to hide its political agenda. I don't know if I believe a single word of the film, but I sure enjoy watching it when it's on.
