There's not much to say about this movie, other
than I thought it was great fun. Woody was perfect for the
part--they used him to great effect and mocked his neuroses
nicely. The visual detail is breathtaking.
Highlights:
- Sylvester Stallone as the buddy.
- Probably the most visually disturbing moment
in the movie, the war between the termites and the ants. The
screen is filled with bugs creeping and crawling. Excellent.
Brrrr. That's Danny Glover as the warrior with the unusually
moving death scene.
- Christopher Walken beating up Gene Hackman to
help save Woody Allen. I mean, how many times does *that* happen?
- The campfire at the beach with the hippie
bugs speculating on the meaning of the universe.
- The great in-joke ending.
- The tennis shoe adventure. I have never
really thought about humans walking from an ant's POV. I can't
wait until it becomes an amusement park ride.
- And without question the finest moment in the
movie--Chip and Muffy, the WASP-y wasps, who contribute one gem
of a scene that has it all--hilarity, hip sensibility, and a tiny
touch of pathos. If you can avoid knowing who the voices are
until you see it, do so. Makes it all the better.
