My Sister Eileen

Return

I watched a musical the other day that isn't often mentioned on the list of great ones (except by me and probably Cellar), so I wanted to remind people of it:

My Sister Eileen stars Betty Garrett, Janet Leigh, Jack Lemmon, and (in one of his few screen roles) Bob Fosse. The songs are quite catchy, if not particularly memorable (Jules Styne) and the choreography was early Fosse, making it far superior to all but the top of the A-list films of the time. Blake Edwards was involved with the script, and it was directed by Richard Quine, who usually made comedies--making the screenplay well above the musical comedy norm of the time.

Certainly worth a look. It's not out on DVD yet, and I'm sure the video is hard to find. But if you have TCM or AMC, keep an eye out for it.
