Return

For the second time in my life I watched Satyajit Ray's The Hero made in 1966. It's the most perfectly realised film. Set in a train—a convention that when successful, seems to bring out the best in writers and directors or in this case the one amazing man who even wrote the music. The cast is strong on every level. There are no small actors in this one. I do believe that Ray is one of the greatest talents, not just in film, but a broad literary, dramatic, artisitic talent that is as great as anyone in any other art form in the 20th century. I'll never forget the mosquitoes dancing on the surface of the water in Pather Panchali.
