Return

"Bounce," the latest from Don Roos, is a variation on that Peter Weir movie with Jeff Bridges and Rosie Perez from a few years ago whose title escapes me. A guy gives up his seat on a flight to someone else. The plane crashes and he goes to contact the dead man's widow -- only to fall in love with her. Will he tell her who he really is? Will she find out on her own? Is the Pope Catholic?

Basically it's a Male Weepie, loaded with subtext as the stars are Ben and Gwyneth. For those longing to figure out Just What is It With These Two Anyway? "Bounce" gives you plenty to chew on.

On another level, it's a hommage to Ben's cheekbone structure and skin tone. MAN but he's fine! (As you can see, folks, I'm Deeply Shallow.)

Don Roos has said that he was out to prove in the wake of "The Opposite of Sex" that he isn't just a gay filmmaker. But no heterosexual would light his leading man this way. And who can blame him? Trying to be Just Like the Straight Guys, Roos proves himself to be a bigger queen than ever. Bravo to that!
