And it's time for my list of traditional Christmas movies:

• A Christmas Carol--while every single version of this story delivers a good ending, the best overall rendition is the 1951 Alistair Sim classic. If you haven't seen it, make this the year.
• Holiday--this is an idiosyncratic pick, but I think this story is far preferable to the more famous Philip Barry play (and Donald Ogden Stewart screenplay), Philadelphia Story. I can't find the 1930 version anywhere, but the 1938 version has Hepburn, Grant, and one of Lew Ayres best supporting performances.
• The Bishop's Wife
• The Christmas Story
• It's a Wonderful Life--yeah, yeah. I know. But if you ever sit and watch it again, without interruption, it still is a powerful good movie.

I'm keeping the list short this year, but what are others watching?
