Blanchett did a good job as a young woman
and was affecting. The film had generally excellent acting,
except for the actress who played queen Mary who kept reminding
me of Nursie from Blackadder. If she or Rush -- who played her
future secretary of state, Walsingham -- had won an oscar, it
wouldn't have been an outrage. Fanny Ardant was another standout,
as Mary of Guise, in what little she was given to do.
But holy jesus was that film fucked up in the direction and
editing. Incoherent and badly told is putting it mildly.
