Return

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: This was an underwhelming picture. It is beautiful (a lock for best cinematography for those who enter Oscar pools) and the action sequences are jaw-dropping. But once you've seen the first two, the rest become less impressive and more onerous on your time. Like The Matrix, ooh-ing and ah-ing give way to ho hum. The film's bigger problem is the story that intersperses the action sequences, a story of revenge that has not been fleshed out, and a story of love that is, but obtrusively so. Grade: B-.
