American Beauty

I finally got around to seeing American Beauty this weekend. Visually interesting, but a sad story. I particularly thought the whole Annette Benning scene selling the dog property ("I will sell this house") fairly amusing. And depressing.

In some ways, similar to Election in its portrayal of American middle class life as missed dreams. And similar to Ice Storm in its p.o.v. relating to dysfunctional families. There's a loony (but business like) drug dealer kid next door who sees beauty in pieces of litter twirling in the wind, and the decomposing body of a pidgeon. That actor was very good.

And who does sarcastic sadness better than Spacey? Benning had a desparation about her that was perfect for her role, imo.
