The only holiday movie that I saw was Cast Away. Tom Hanks has switched from being the angry smuck with a heart of gold to become the polite American Everyman with a heart of gold. If the movie is compelling at times, it is because of him. The scene with the plane crash was scary, and became more so because it went on and on. Wilson, the volley ball or Ball Friday of this story, gave a wooden performance. This is a morality story summed up by the line, "you never know what the tide will bring."
