Return

And I saw "For Love of the Game." Kevin Costner as a big league pitcher who falls in love and reminisces on same while pitching against the Yankees on the eve of his retirement as his girlfriend of many years is leaving on a jet plane.

Three thoughts.

  1. First, this is supposed to be a baseball movie, but it has Costner slicing his pitching hand on a router. Like a pitcher making $15 million a year is working in the shed with his Black and Decker (hell, they are contractually barred from masturbating). It also has the manager putting guys up in the bullpen WHILE COSTNER IS PITCHING A PERFECT GAME for a team no longer in the pennant race! Ha ha ha . . . er . . . ha.
  2. John Travolta's wife is the female lead. I feel bad for him. She's a harping, wiry, unpleasant persona. I was hoping that perhaps Costner would use the Black and Decker on her at some point.
  3. This is a Sam Raimi film, and it is plenty more horrifying that Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness combined.
