I saw American Beauty yesterday and really liked it. Someone said they didn't believe
people talked like that to each other in suburbia; thirty-six years ago when I was a young
suburbanite housewife, my neighbors across the street could've been Lester and his wife.
It was a rude shock to me being only 18 and newly married. But I think far too many people
like that exist to this day and they are out there behind the rose bushes and picket fences,
leading really sad lives.
