Return

I saw The Truman Show last night. I have to say that I was more pleased with the execution than I had expected. Peter Weir showed some laudable restraint in portraying Truman's growing angst, keeping a short leash on Carrey whereas a lesser director might have turned him loose a little too often. The ending was surprisingly abrupt, but in retrospect entirely appropriate to what the film sought to achieve.

Who was the actress playing the love interest (the one that was campaigning to spring him)? She was absolutely lovely, her eyes communicated what might have been pages of script in the hands of a different director. For the life of me I can't think of what else I might have seen her in.

Ed Harris played his character flawlessly; I've known guys like that, both in Hollywood and in the ad biz.

Harry Shearer's bit part was spot on. I'll bet he had fun doing it.
