Life is Beautiful was very wrenching. Its first half was one of the funniest romantic comedies I have seen in years. The last half left me with mixed feelings. I'll admit to bawling throughout the film, but I couldn't stop my mind from thinking about how stupid his "game" with his son was (he had to re-invent the rules so often I was just waiting for the kid to walk up to a guard and quit), and how foolish the mother was to tag along to the camps (I very much got the impression that Guido would have both survived if he hadn't been trying to rescue his wife). Probably churlish quibbles, and I'll give the film time to settle.
