Return

Castaway was a very enjoyable movie. One of the year's must see flicks no doubt about it. I coulda done without the 20 minute FedEx commercial at the beginning and the 'reunion' at the end was lame to say the least, but even with all that when it is just Tom, the volleyball, and the island - well ... movie magic happens. i hated to see him leave the damn thing i was so caught up in it.

as an aside, having worked for and, more importantly, having used the 'jump seat' perk of being an employee (that's what you call it when an employee who isn't a pilot flies on a cargo jet), the movie got that aspect just spot on. the helplessness of sitting in that damned little seat while watching the pilot and co-pilot flitter and flirt with incomprehensible little dials and lighted gadgets is staggering. i hate to fly anyway and watching the actual flying (although never a crash - thank tha lawd) is scary to me to say the least. as a matter of fact, they got the entire FedEx culture exactly right which i found a little odd - thought i was sitting in another meeting room watching those horrid little 'introductory' movies from several years ago.
