Return

Saw Gladiator last night. Read a very critical review in The Nation just now. One thing Klawans(?) mentions is the way the violence was handled, very Hollywood, actually depriving us of the gore that we crave and deserve. This chap also doesn't like the idea of morality, nor of a heroic figure. We are base and we should wallow in our baseness. He seems quite the jaded fuck. On the other hand he begins his review with Gibbon's account of the emporor Commodus which was, indeed, more interesting than his portrayal in this movie. He thinks Crowe is a good actor who was not allowed to act, bla bla bla. I liked the movie.
