My Roots in Poland

My story begins in 1996 ago when I started searching for my roots using the internet. I was looking at a web site called the "Birthday Web" to see who else was born on my daughter's birthday when I came across Tadeusz with the same last name as mine. His email address was in Poland and since I am Polish I decided to email him to see if there were many other people in Poland with the same name.

I received a reply a few weeks later that said there were and he found it very interesting that I had contacted him. After several email letters back and forth he asked me if I knew a person in Massachusetts. He discovered while visiting a relative that she had copies of letters written by someone from Mass. I couldn't believe it when he told me the address and the name of the person. It turned out to be my grandmother who had come to the U.S. in 1912. He sent me an actual copy of the letter and I showed it to my father who confirmed that it was my grandmother who had written the letter and in it she told of my family! We then discovered that our grandfathers were brothers. My grandfather and 2 other brothers came to the U.S. in the early 1900's while his grandfather and other brothers and a sister remained in Poland.

We have been corresponding for almost 3 years now and that is how Tadeusz and I met. We discovered we have much in common. We both have a daughter that is in college and we both work with computers.

Since receiving my email, Tadeusz has researched the our family tree in Poland and I have done the same here in the U.S. By using the same family tree software we are able to share our information and update it with each other's data.

Taduesz had asked me to visit them in Poland in 1998 I decided I would go. I contacted my cousin Mark who told me if I ever went to Poland he would be interested in going also. So we decided to make the trip to search for our roots. The following links tell of our trip and show some of the places we visited.
