Electro-Pop

If you're really into electronic pop music (no Techno, House, Rap or Ambient), take a look at the following groups which might interest you.

Depeche Mode

Synthesis Gods, from cheap tronic music to their latest hybrid of synths and guitars.

Human League

More Synthesis Gods which inspired Vince Clark (ex Depeche Mode, Yazoo, currently Erasure)

Heaven 17

Remnants of Human League - less commercial stuff.

New Order

Monotone synth Gods that don't fit in any category due to their past as Joy Division. Excellent stuff!

Pet Shop Boys

Kings of the Fairlight Music Computer. 80's sampler-ridden dancfloor music. Good stuff!

Electronic

Spinoff from New Order, The Smiths and the Pet Shop Boys. Sounds like New Order singing to Pet Shop Boys music. Bit monotonous.

OMD

Fits right in with the earlier bunch like Numan and Kraftwerk.

Front 242

Some great stuff. Front by Front is an excellent album.

Camouflage

Tinges of Depeche Mode, but with enough individuality to be set apart. Voices & Images and Methods of Silence are excellent!

Howard Jones

Human's Lib and Dream Into Action .... must-have albums!

Thomas Dolby

This guy is wierd, but he makes some great music.

Thompson Twins

Into the Gap and Quick Step & Sidekick are great synth albums.

Kraftwerk

The robotic, hypnotic group that inspired them all!! Perhaps the king of monotony though.

Gary Numan

Another one who force-fed synthesisers to the Eighties masses.

Ultravox

Hybrid electric guitars and synths - excellent!

Visage

Spinoff from Ultravox - possibly even better.

Yazoo

An absolute must - only 2 albums, but well worth it if you liked Depeche Mode's Speak and Spell. What can I say? Vince Clark!

Erasure

What can I say? Vince Clark again!

Talk-Talk

Some great songs, but some unconventional ones too.

Tears for Fears

Earlier stuff was excellent!

Information Society

New stuff is a bit bizarre (lots of talking and crap), and the old stuff pits them as Human League wannabes influenced a little too much by the dancefloor. Some great songs, but lyrics are really yawn-yawn!

A-Ha

First 2 albums were great.

Alphaville

First album was excellent.

Flock of Seagulls

Some excellent stuff too, but also some unconventional songs. Another electric guitar-synth hybrid.

Silicon 39

Some NEW synthpop! LINK 1 - LINK 2

Feel free to eMail me if there are some others you think should be here. No 24-7, or Ace of Base, or Technotronic stuff (although Ace of Base might pass J).
