My father has been here for almost a week now. He arrived into Entebbe airport last Friday; his bags didn't! They had been left behind in Brussels when he changed flights. The airline apologised, said they could have them in Kampala by the following Monday and gave him $100 to buy new clothes. We were most worried about the giant smoked salmon that had come out of the freezer that morning and was lying across all Dad's clothes at the top of his case.
We have the bag now and I have been enjoying some of the treats that were in it for me - KP Dry Roasted peanuts, some new books and a video of some sit-coms that I miss from home.
We
have had many visitors to welcome Dad to the country. Yesterday evening at about
8pm there was a knock on the door and the bishop's wife, three children and the
guest house manager - Sarah - filed in. They had with them a huge basket of
fruit as you can see in the photo below.
Other
people have also given us gifts of food - trays of eggs, pineapples, mangoes and
papayas.
I don't know how we are going to get through it all as we were planning on going travelling for a week from tomorrow. We are considering heading north-west initially to Murchison National Park where we can apparently see wild lions, elephants, hippos etc. We are slightly concerned about the heat - it is meant to be in the 40s there thhese days. After that we will head down along the Congo border to Fort Portal. It is up the mountains a bit and so should be nice and cool. After a day or so there we will continue south to Lake Bunyoni which is meant to be particularly beautiful. On our way back to Luweero we may spend a night at Lake Mburo where I visited during the Christmas holidays to break up the journey. To see our proposed route, click on the picture below
