FREELOCK TUTORIAL

PART 1

HOW TO CREATE THE FREELOCK PROTECTION KEY DISK

1. Download FREELOCK zip from this web site.

2. Extract the zip to a directory e.g. c:\flock using pkunzip, winzip, etc.

3. Now go find yourself a 3½" 1.44mb formatted disk, make sure that it is write enabled and insert it into your A: drive.

4. You will notice the file install.bat amongst the extracted files in step.Execute this file. This creates the important FREELOCK key disk. This disk contains the PSX copy protection files.

-WARNING- The contents of the disk in A: will be overwritten, please make sure that you do not need any files contained on this disk!

5. When complete, you will find 2 files on the key disk: FREELOCK.EXE & FREELOCK.TXT Your disk is now ready to protect your PSX cd's.

PART 2

HOW TO PROTECT A CD WITH FREELOCK

1. Insert your PSX cd that you wish to back up & protect.

2. Create an image of the cd using *CDRWIN (WIN) or *SNAPSHOT (DOS) to a directory e.g. C:\BACKUP

This creates 2 files; C:\BACKUP\MYGAME.BIN C:\BACKUP\MYGAME.CUE

3. Open an MSDOS command prompt (If using MS Window click on Start -> Run and enter "command" [return])

4. Change your directory to the same as the image file e.g. C:\BACKUP\

5. IMPORTANT! - Insert FREELOCK KEY disk into drive A: (if not already there!)

FREELOCK MSDOS command line = A:\FREELOCK CUEFILE [RETURN]

6. To modify our cue sheet using the above example we would enter A:\FREELOCK MYGAME.CUE [RETURN]

7. Your cd CUE file has been modified by adding 'illegal' tracks to the end of the cd.

8. Now write the cd from image file using *CDRWIN (WIN) or *DAO (DOS), NERO etc., by selecting the modified CUE sheet.

9. IMPORTANT! You must leave the FREELOCK key disk in your A: drive as it will be accessed during the copy process.

10.During the write process, you will recive an error toward the end of the cd writing

DO NOT WORRY!............ THIS IS NORMAL AND PART OF THE PROTECTION.

11 When you recieve the ERROR message, your CD is done - and protected, Try re-copying it using test write. :)

REMEMBER:
This protection scheme does NOT make your cd 100% un-copyable,...
but it surely makes things bloody difficult!! hehe!
