What are we doing anyway?

I've been sitting here in my office with no windows looking at some pretty dreary wallpaper (real stuff on my walls). OK your on to me, i've been day dreaming and playing FreeCell! I think we've missed the point of making money in the new economy of the digitized world. This is an industry founded by people looking to have fun. This in an industry where the people who get rich make (and play with) the coolest toys.

LETS HAVE SOME FUN!

Where would we be if it weren't for screen savers, themes and wallpaper? Weren't the founders of our industry the original hackers? Websites are for the most part, just vanity sideshows, but there fun. There is a thrill to showing a cool .GIF file to your friends. There is a special feeling about the first time someone looked at your webpage. Lets face it, while the world wide web was developing profitable ways to connect users to businesses, most of the traffic was naked women! I've got cursor pointer which show a hand drumming its fingers while I wait for files to load.

FUN SELLS. If you really want to make a lot of money, figure out a cool thing you want to do and no matter what it takes, make it work. Think of outrageous ways to do everyday things. Hide tumbling clowns behind listboxes. Here's the deal: If what your doing becomes a huge success and you make a zillion dollars, you can look back and say you had fun doing it. If it never produces a dime of revenue, you still had fun doing it!

List of really fun stuff:

Produce any really odd effect from a normal routine.

Make something strange happen in the middle of your program.

Do something they thought about but never did.

Microwave a Twinkie.
