Here I am with my modified Aerotech StrongArm. This is the rocket that got me into High Power Rocketry. This is also the rocket that I used to obtain my NAR (National Association of Rocketry) Level 1 Certification.
I started out in Model Rocketry back in the 70's and built many of the simple designs that were available back then. The hardest kit I built back then was the Saturn V that had the interchangeable motor mount that allowed you to fly on either a cluster of three "C" engines, or a single "D". Like most other people, I soon got interested in cars and girls and forgot about rockets. I'm still bitten by the car bug and if you follow the link to the MG CARS, you will see some of my current automotive interests.
Ten years later, I was married and had kids. I remembered how much I enjoyed rocketry as a kid, so I got my kids into it and we all had a great time building and flying rockets. They lost interest eventually to video games, and I forgot about it as well. Another few years pass, many changes occur, and I find myself looking for another hobby. That's when I saw the Aerotech kits being auctioned on Ebay. That's also when I started learning about motors bigger that Estes "D" engines.
So, with the help of the internet, I found Rocketry Online, and Wild Rocketry, which got me started into the world of High Power Rocketry. I went to my first high power launch in February of '00, and was immediately hook on the BIG motors! So now I am currently NAR Certified at Level 1, and I am currently working on my Level 2 project. Will I ever make it to Level 3? Who knows, but I have the support of my wife, and what's even better, after attending the high power launch with me, she got bit by the rocketry bug, and is currently building her second kit, an Aerotech Initiator.
