stand-alone MP3 player:

concept:

  • a cdrom player
  • a microcontroller to get the data of the cdrom, in this case a motorola 68hc11F1
  • a special ic to decode the mp3 datastream into regular digital audio
  • a dac to transform the digital audio to analog audio

What do I have at the moment:

  • a nice 19inch rack case with a cdrom
  • the controller is connected with the cdrom and I'm able to control the cdrom
  • a nice 4x20, backlit lcd display from Matrix Orbital connected to the 68hc11 with an i2c bus
  • an imbdev development board for the mp3 decoder+ dac

One important link:
SpectSoft, home of the mp3tech list and there you can also find some links to useful resources.
This page will be updated in the next few weeks with schematics, source code and links. But here's the pdf file of the schematics:mp3player. The code will be here too when I have time to pack it. O, and the schematic will be updated too...

In the mean time: people who read the mp3tech list know my main email adres, the rest (if any) can use filippeters@yahoo.com

I made a tarball of some working code, this checks the state of the cdrom player, looks if the drive is open/closed,if there is a cd loaded or not. It can query the drive for it's capabilities and open/close the drive.
