About:

I am a pucca Bomba.. oops Mumbaiite. I am a music freak, any kind will do. I play the keyboards (the synths to be precise) and just boards.
I am an Mechanical Engineer from Sardar Patel College of Engg. in Mumbai
I graduated out in may '95 batch. After graduation I worked for a year with Engineering giant in Mumbai for about a year, designing guess what ??....Pressure Vessels.
Later I joined Indian Institute of Technology's School of Management. and then into the IT software "industry" since then.

I am into software solutions design and development and a huge Visual Basic fan. I also dabble around with Java, VC++ (my second and third choice for prog. languages).

Recently started to fiddle with Microsoft's .NET stuff.

U can get to see some of my works at My Download Page.

Technical Stuff

  • The first BASIC program I wrote was in 1987 on a BBC micro. I really got hooked with QuickBasic at around 1992 and finally the VisualBasic versions v3.0 onwards. Now that I do some coding using VC++ it is very easy to realise what a fantastic product VB is. (Those who have worked on VB and VC especially on database and DCOM projects, must be nodding their heads.)
  • Well ASP (Active Server Pages) is way too cool. I have been working with ASP for last 4 years, and one can keep on surprising oneself with what can be done with ASP-DHTML combination.
I feel very sad when some say ASP/Windows is not a dependable platform for web development, it does not scale well ....
With ASP 3.0 and Win2K servers I dont think there are any such problem. Whetever problems exist are because of shoddy programming and poor database design. ASP.NET is going to instill further discipline into the programmer so this problem would be solved to a great extent.
  • I tried my hand at Java mostly developing front ends from pre Swing days. I am not to happy with Swing performance (as of Jan 2001) but willing to wait till things improve. It still requires a 128MB RAM Celeron m/c for Swing UIs to be comfortable, which I think is slightly heavy for "thin" clients. The EJB/JSP stuff is cool but I hope they soon standardise the versions, they are changing it too fast for me.
  • MFC and VC are current fascinations. Well I could go on and on here but ....

My areas of interest (if you are interested)

  •  Writing computer games, screen savers and utils.
  • Reading Sci-Fi and fantacy novels..I simply love Asimov.
BTW while reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I had noticed the lapse where Crouch is suddenly addressed in the conversation when he is supposed to be missing.
I ignored it as something which the proof reader missed. But guess what... after a few weeks news is flashed on all news papers (even in India) of a little girl in the US who "found" out the glitch. If I had sent a email to publishers first....
  • Playing musical (or non-musical) instruments. Visit my Xlinks page some of my compositions, err.. experiments rather!
  • Cross-words..Not tooooo cryptic.
  • Photography
  • I love Planes (of the military breed) and collect pics and info.
I have zillions of magazines with fantastic snaps of almost all military planes that ever flew, right from WW-1 onwards. I am planning to scan all the photographs and put them on a website for every ones viewing delight.
