R/C Plane "Switch & Recharge Port" Concept

By Colin Williams - sing@ibm.net

Comments, suggestions and error corrections welcomed!

Update 24th Jan 1999 - It turns out that this idea is totally unoriginal and also unreliable due to corrosion, the simple switch mechanism in the socket loosing its spring over time and the plug and socket being under spec'd for the job at hand - oh well! - no harm in trying! :)

I suggest that if you are still interested in this type of arrangement then you should check out the Switch Jack by Hollyday Designs - a professional level product designed for the job!

Notes:

  • Use the wires and connectors from the existing switch harness to allow for easy removal of the battery and receiver if needed.

  • Cut the internal connectors from the inside of the 3.5mm plug used for the "Key" to stop the possibility of a short circuit inside which could damage the battery.

  • Attach a length of bright coloured ribbon to the "Key" so it can be easily found if dropped at the flying field.

  • The "Charge Plug Adapter" is to allow for charging of standard battery packs/standard plane installations.
