Some believe man to be naturally good, while others don’t and it is debatable, though believing that man is naturally good is the harder of the two by far. If man was naturally good, what has caused him to stray from his original ways? Is it society, his upbringings, his family or perhaps the media?
The number one contributing factor to the North American society doing so poorly in terms of crimes on persons, and on properties is due to the lack of patriotism, and sense of ones self. In sense of self it is meant the sense of ones identity in reference to their heritage and religious backgrounds. A lack of pride allows for a lack of pride in ones self, a lack of pride in ones self carries on to their surroundings. This is the equation for disaster. Switching over to the other side of the continuum, we have the European and Middle Eastern countries, which are notoriously known for their warring factions, constant engagement and terminal dispositions. These individuals on the other hand are most definitely not suffering from any lack of identity. These people do however know exactly who they are and are well in tune with their own religious and moral (if not one in the same) beliefs and the beliefs of those around them. It is these beliefs that have caused the perpetual warring, most of us are well aware of the reasons as to why there is constant conflict. Religion. Since all of the peoples in this area believe so highly in their own deities and their own methods, and due to the exceptional close quarters in which they live it is no wonder as to why they continue as they do.

Is it possible that these are the only problems? Most definitely not! It is also possible that mankind does not naturally have a pleasant and compliant disposition? ‘Tis only one possibility in a world of possibilities. Man has long been known to yearn for more than he is allotted in life, due to the way society has been presented. And do not for one second doubt that it has been presented as material, perhaps the Hutterites are right when they say. “Property belongs not to the Christian, but to the heathen.” It is seldom place that there is any value placed on the immaterial in this day and age. This in it’s self is not entirely wrong, though there is no doubt that it is correct by any means. It is the emphasis that we as individual, and more importantly parents put on these material things.
Parents! What an interesting bunch, but that which is of much more interest is their children and they always will be in this type of argument, though the parent does affect the individuals early years it is their own peers and schooling which will ultimately shape them into the individuals that they are to become. That being said there must be something wrong with our educational institutes, and society as we cannot be expected to change the “children”.

Looking at the larger scale of things it is quite easy to say “man’s natural disposition is not a peace full one” this one statement in itself quickly and kindly does away with the entire argument in one swift kick. Though in saying so one is admitting to ignorance, as there are societies, which do operate in peace, though at large costs. Theoretically to have a globe or even a nation, which has little to no crime, or inhumane acts the following must be achieved. There must be no exclusive groups, all must be inclusive, in doing so there will be no out-groups and none will be forgotten. This surprisingly sounds like communism. A type of government which will work in the utopian society, but one that has failed miserably in centuries past. In this case an interesting question arises. Are we simply destined to fail?
