In a nutshell, I'm an Indian - who grew up in Saudi Arabia - living in Orlando. My family comes from Hyderabad (oh well, need I say any more?), but we've been living in Jeddah for more than 20 years now. I finished high school in 1997 (International Indian School), and moved to Turkey where I attended university in Ankara (Middle East Technical University - METU), majoring in Environmental Engineering. In December 2001, I moved to the United States of America (Orlando, FL), where I currently reside, to complete my undegraduate degree at the University of Central Florida (UCF). I have an active interest in environmental (especially water related) matters, and I am a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). I attended the Water 2000 conference held by AWWA in San Antonio, TX (USA) in February 2000 where I made a presentation (titled Local Values in Water Use and Reuse - Turkey) which was co-authored by a friend of mine, Azhar Ali. I intend to do more work in this field in the future. Aside from this, I am an active web developer and design commercial and private websites. Clients are hard to come by when you're working alone but I hope to set up my own Web Solutions company (Ansoft Inc.) in the near future.

Fortunately for me, I still get to visit my family back in Jeddah between semesters. We're basically a small family.. and pretty much like the family next door..

Dad works at the King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah, and Mom is a school-teacher.

Majid:
The eldest of us- a computer engineer. He graduated last year, and is presently working in Jeddah with a huge multi-national software solutions company.

Sarah:
School-teacher; Got her masters degree in arts last summer. Married, had her first baby last November: my niece Bushra. Sarah's older than me too.

Ifteqar:
My brother-in-law (Sarah's hubby).. He's a real sweet guy, but sadly we haven't had the chance to spend much time together yet.. Hopefully soon..

Asjad:
My kid brother.. the li'l devil's only 5 years old. He's in kindergarten..

Ankara:

I live in a rented apartment with two real close buddies.. Yousuf (India) and Reehan (Burma).

Yousuf (Aeronautical Engineering):
We go back a long way - same school since grade 3. We've seen some good and bad times along the way, and even now sometimes I find it hard to believe that we're still living together. For better or for worse, it looks like we're stuck together for the next couple of years too... Just kidding man; actually, we get along really well.

Reehan (Metallurgical Engineering):
Okay, now this is the hard part.. having to explain Reehan.. He's nothing like your average guy.. wisecrack, lazy, and gifted with an amazing voice.. oops, sense of humor. In short, you have to see him to believe him. Guys, I'll get to your websites soon..

Khalid "Bunyadi" (Environmental Engineering):
Lived with us for one year until he left Turkey in May. Having been from my department, we get along extremely well. Nothing can define him better than the nickname bestowed upon him - Bunyadi. Absolutely a great friend, whose indifference and unpredictable comments and reactions never cease to surprise any of us. He has the uncanny ability of dissecting any predicament, situation or comment and his dry humour will almost always make you burst into fits of laughter!

And now, the rest of the gang.. People say a man is known by the company he keeps.. If so, God have mercy on all of us!!

Sajjad (Mechanical Engineering):
The star goal keeper of our soccer team, and before I forget... the dirtiest card player in our group. A master of trump, he wouldn't hesitate to cheat you right under your nose (but only in a card game).. Also, the vice-captain and a star bowler of our university's cricket team.

Zubair (Philosophy):
Veteran internet chat expert. Leave him on the net for 15 minutes, and you'll find him chatting with a whole bunch of babes. And when you hear a cell phone beeping and Zubair is in the vicinity, don't even bother checking if its your phone.. He's got people messaging him 24/7. Loves to present others with ambiguous questions and dilemmas. And yes, the karate expert.. brown belt.

And now, I'd like to take a few more lines to mention the rest of my friends, some of whom are no longer in Ankara. Thanx guys and Bhais (brothers) for everything.. You're always gonna be in my heart..

My first housemates in Ankara:

Amir Riaz (graduated '1999) - now in Pakistan

Imran Rashid (graduated '1999) - now in Saudi Arabia

Zamir Khan (transfered to the States '1998)

(the three of you are very special to me..)

And .....

Shahid Shafiq

Mohammad Ali (Mo) - this guy has the most incredible sense of humor!! Lively, spontaneous and funny are the words that come to my mind when I think of him.

Qasim Khawaja

Rashid Khan

Imran Saleem
