Evil Insīde is a team of Distributing Computing Technologies Incorperated, or distributed.net for short. We are dedicated to solving many real world problems through the use of distributed computing. The type of distributed computer that we do is where you break down an incredibly large task and assign small parts of it to many computers. Distributed.net has thousands and thousands of participants, which can be allied with a team, like us, Evil Insīde.
And our logo? I don't know. I didn't make it. I just animated it. I don't know why we chose an Intel spoof. We just did. That doesn't mean that we are anti-Intel. No, go and check our our membership table for proof. And then join the team.
Distribted.net has several current and upcomming projects, or problems for you to work on:
There are many incentives to join and stay with Evil Insīde, even just distributed.net:
Just to calm any fears you may have at this point, cracking RC5, DES, or anything else we may do is in no way illegal. In fact, the RC5 and DES contests are put on by RSA Labs, the designers of RC5 and DES! We are not breaking in to something we should not. If and when we find the answer, technically known as the correct key, the decrypted text will be confirmed with RSA Labs. If it is correct, we get the money! Fear no more. We are completely legal, moral, and ethical. If you feel otherwise, simply don't join.
When you first join there is a little bit of work you must do, installing the program that your computer will run, configuring it, and registering yourself with Evil Insīde in the big Distributed.net database. This is so the statistics for our team will include your work. If you are not connected to the Internet most of the time, you will have to connect about once a week to download new assignments, or blocks, to work on, and to upload completed assignments, once again known as blocks. The program that runs on your computer runs in the background, with idle priority. This means that it will only use your computers's recourses when nothing else is happening, so it won't slow anything else down. I have heard that on Windows 3.1 and some MacOS machines, the client (program) may affect your computer's preformance, but I can't say for sure.
Important: You should not install the client on a computer that you don't own or admisiter without permission from the proper people, whoever they may be. If you run the program on a computer that is not run by you without authorization, many bad things will happen. First, you will get in big trouble. Second, we will get in big trouble. Third, distributed.net (DCTI) will get in big trouble. Forth, the entire RC5 contest will be nulled, meaning we did years of work for nothing. Fifth, everybody involved will be very mad at you. So please ask before you install the client on someone else's computer!
See that button to the left that reads "Signing up"? Click it. Click on the link to get to the form, and fill it out. Then click back and follow the rest of the directions. You can always mail me for help.
Uh, we would really, really, really like it if you would like put a link to our page on yours. The more hits (and members) the merrier. If you would be kind enough to link to us, you can either use a text link, or if you are super generous you could use the animated logo at the top of the left frame, or the animated banner that can be found here. If you do use a graphic, it would be much better if you could keep it on your server, because we might switch providers some time. Sorry, but we can't afford to pay you for any advertising. Although we would most certainly put up a link to your page. If you have a graphic or banner of reasonable size, we will use that. Just let us know. Am I making any sense?
Also included with this page are several MIDI files. To get at them, click the button on the top of your screen. If you have any you would like included, or you want one that is not posted, join the team and I will see what I can do. :)
