The Network

The purpose of the network is to enable the MUD to communicate with players, and, inversely, to let the players communicate with the MUD. The great bane of many a MUD is network lag. Who hasn't had a character who suffered death or worse during a heavy lag?

Actually, a big problem most people run into when they set out to run a MUD is lack of network bandwidth. Many people can't get the bandwidth necessary to run a MUD. Obviously, what we need is an efficient way to communicate with players; one that doesn't waste bandwidth.

There are many ways to use the network. Currently, two of them are presented here: Telnet to Server and Client to Server.
