What's New

Hello, and welcome to my site. I hope that you find the information and links useful. And by the way, feedback is greatly appreciated.

The Mission

To boldly go where many have gone before, and others will go again...

We are talking about software here, and there is no end to the opportunity to continually reinvent (and sometimes improve) the "wheel". There are a number of reasons for the constant recoding of existing solutions:

  • Management feels that the needs of the organization cannot be met by an existing package because of "special" business practices.
  • The functionality can readily be aquired from a third party for a negligible investement, but management wants to own the code in order to maintain "complete control" of the projects future.
  • The development team suffers from the NIH (not invented here) syndrome. This problem stems from ego, and is evident in talented programmers as well as the lesser skilled variety.
  • Our fully functional, completely debugged code base does not take advantage of the latest technologies available on (add OS of choice).
  • New functionality needs to be added, but the source code that matches the released executables cannot be located and the existing source is not stable.
  • The hardware/software platform is obsolete and continued development in the environment would be contrary to the best interests of the organization.

I have dedicated this site to providing useful tips on software development, project management, programming languages and tools. The tools and technologies to be covered are oriented toward 32-bit Windows, as I focus my development efforts on Windows NT/95.
